Pale Grey. Their music isn’t as pale and grey as their name. Released their first album “Best Friend” in the beginning of 2014, Pale Grey performs pop music and combines it with a taste of electronica and hip-hop. They might seem like the common european indie bands with the implicit lyrics inside the uplifting music.
Before releasing their first album, Pale Grey has released their EP called “Put Some Colors” which its tracks are literally titled using color names. The way they named their songs with color names certainly affects the feelings their listeners get. It is as if each track gives different vibe and mood representing its color.
Their first album “Best Friend” gives different impressions. It’s not as colorful as “Put Some Colors”, but if the first thing that comes to your mind to the phrase “Best Friend” is something cheerful and happy-go-lucky stuff, then looks like Pale Grey has a different idea (or a different way to deliver the idea) of “Best Friend”. In this album, they sound paler and more grey. Especially with the album cover that is dominated by grey and pale color, you really get the sense of “This is Pale Grey”.
Despite their paleness, their music is a kind that you will want to listen in the end of a hard day. Their music might sounds gloomy, but it still brings you positive vibes in some ways which makes it suitable for calming your mind. With this, they’ve brought their music across the Europe, such as UK, France, and Germany.
The word pale and grey are often interpreted as something negative. But with their music, Pale Grey shows that “Pale” and “Grey” are not as bad as their images.
Here is my quick interview with Pale Grey:
Q: First of all, why chose “Pale Grey” as the name of your band?
A: Maxime and I come from the south of Belgium where fog and and rain are common matters. We lived and grown up under a pale grey sky. I thing it is something that we both assimilate to our childhood .That’s where it comes from, where we come from.
Q:If there’s one color that describes your band and your music, what would that be? Would that be pale grey as well? and why?
A: It would be difficult to define one color. Our band is composed by really different personalities, each of them could be associated to a color. That’s what our first EP also represent. Our music is the result of all our influences, our stories and personalities. Pale grey can be associated to soberty and maybe sadness but associated with other colors it gets wider significations.
Q: How do you relate your music to each member’s personality?
A: When we compose it takes a really long time because we always try to combine all the personalities and which of each member. It is important to us that each song is the result of all our affinities.
Q: How do you want your music to affect your listeners?
A: Our music is as well quite and sad as fun and rhythmic. I thing that the listeners can be affected by the lyrics as by the music itself. We just hope it generate a feeling even a Small one.
Q: Last but not least, what’s your upcoming goal(s)?
A: Being as famous as Michael Jackson (RIP)
